The
Story
After recovering from a hefty pole postering fine from the
Port Philip City Council, The Bentleys have been leaving a
lasting impression with their passionate and emotional live
performances, and have gone on to support the likes of The
Anyones, Genavive Maynard, The Restless, Forth Floor Collapse,
Love Outside Andromeda and Palladium.
‘the last time I was in Melbourne,
I managed to catch a glimpse of The Bentleys, at the legendary
Espy, and I must say that I was quite impressed. Receiving
the band’s debut EP Sunday Driver has brought the memory
of their performance right back, and I’m still impressed
with what I’m hearing……these guys definitely
have plenty of potential, and I’m sure they’ll
be going places in the future” - Rip it up, 2003.
Guitarist/singer-songwriter Mitch Heron moved to Melbourne
from Adelaide in Feb 2000 in search of new players and new
inspiration. While writing and performing new material, he
teamed up with conservatorium trained cellist/violinist Caz
Gannell, adding rich, lush strings to the already melodic
nature of the songs. In March 2002 after being suitably impressed
at a gig, bassist Trent McKenzie approached the band and joined
soon after. More recently Ian McDonald has joined The Bentleys
on drums.
‘with cello taking centre
stage…songs with rhythm and soul, the cello adding depth
and darkness to the sound. They are worthy of your attention.’
Inpress - Indie Initiative, 2002.

Drawing on a wealth of influences past and present, The Bentleys
seamlessly blend acoustic and electric elements, from melodic
pop to more aggressive, dark terrains, to create their emotive
and dynamic sound.
‘There is always something
about putting that rich woody cello noise at the centre of
a pop song. It can be moody, dreamy, or dark. The Bentleys
know how to use it…… Altogether well put together.’
Drum Media, 2004.
